What does peptide mean?
The myth
“Peptide” names a single treatment.
The fact
A peptide’s tiny parts join into a short chain; picture beads threaded together to make a small string.
An injection puts a substance into the body. The word peptide alone cannot tell you a product’s legal status.
Start by writing down the drug’s exact name. Ask what that injection should help with. Keep the answer specific, such as a named health problem.
Is the medicine approved or made to order?
The myth
A pharmacy-made version is just a generic.
The fact
For drug oversight in the U.S., FDA is the agency’s short name; Food and Drug Administration is its full name.
Injection approvals: as of September 26, 2026.
For semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), the injection brands have FDA approval. Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) also has FDA-approved injection brands.
The approval covers a particular product used for named health problems.
A brand medicine’s copy is called a generic; it receives approval of its own. When a medicine is mixed or prepared to order, that process is called compounding.
September 26, 2026, is the date for this status: compounded medicines lack FDA approval. Before sale, these medicines receive no FDA review of their safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing quality.
Compounding can be legal, but a prescription alone does not show that all the rules have been met.
A pharmacy preparing a medicine to order must observe ingredient limits and hold a valid prescription written for the individual patient. There are also limits on making copies of approved medicines that patients can already get.
Ask the pharmacy to explain which rules permit preparing that particular medicine for you. Ask what medical need you have that an approved medicine cannot address.
What changes when the patient is in Atlanta?
The myth
An online service only follows the rules where its office is.
The fact
A telehealth visit uses a phone connection, video, or a form completed online.
Georgia access: as of September 28, 2026.
A doctor treating a Georgia patient from another state generally needs a Georgia medical licence or a special Georgia licence for remote care.
Look at in-person clinics or licensed telehealth services. In either setting, ask who checks your health and who decides whether to prescribe.
For a video visit, ask whether an in-person exam is needed before a first prescription.
